Location Management in Wireless Mobile Systems
by Weiping He
Location Management is an essential process
in mobile communication networks.
There are some important issues
including how to reduce location information
query cost, how to increase the service capacity
of location databases, and so
on. In this paper, I proposed a new
location management scheme that is based
on the centralized database architecture
with HLR/VLR. My basic idea is to
reduce the cost of call delivery using the
location information cached at
MSC/VLR, to increase reliability and performance
of location server using
replica, to increase load balance using hashing
to choose one server. There is
no difference between primary server and replica
in my scheme. When the system
receives a call, its MSC cache is checked first
to locate the callee, if not
find, then search the location server given
by a hashing function. Location
updates are multicast by a server to other servers.
Then I give some
mathematical analysis. My proposed scheme is
particularly suitable for the
evolution of the existing wireless network
architecture.
