------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TITLE: The Future of Cybersecurity: Working Backward, Thinking Forward ABSTRACT The past decades have seen huge increases in computing, communications, and storage capacities available for a given price. They have also witnessed a similar rise in attacks on computer and communications networks. The National Science Foundation's Cyber Trust emphasis area was created to move society towards a state in which its computer systems can be depended on to provide needed services even when under attack. This talk will review a little history, survey recent Cyber Trust awards, and speculate briefly about the future. ABOUT THE SPEAKER --------------------------------- Dr. Landwehr's Bio: Carl Landwehr is Program Director- Computer Systems Cluster, Division of Computer and Network Systems (program responsibilities - Cyber Trust, Trusted Computing, Highly Dependable Computing and Communication Systems Research at the National Science Foundation. He is on assignment from his position as Senior Fellow at Mitretek Systems, a nonprofit science and technology firm. Prior to joining Mitretek, he headed the Computer Security Section of the Center for High Assurance Computer Systems at the Naval Research Laboratory for many years, where he led a variety of research projects to advance technologies of computer security and high-assurance systems. He has also served on the computer science faculty at Purdue University. His current research interests include information security and dependable systems.
