Center for Food and Nutrition Policy
The Center for Food and Nutrition Policy (CFNP), Alexandria, is dedicated to advancing rational, science-based food and nutrition policy. Through research, outreach and educational programs, the center examines complex, and oftentimes contentious, issues facing government policymakers, regulators, agribusinesses, food manufacturers, the media and consumers. Recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, CFNP is the only food and nutrition policy center in the world to receive this distinction.
A team of experienced faculty members with diverse backgrounds offers an unmatched combination of expertise in food safety and security, biotechnology, nutrition and risk analysis. The science-based culture of CFNP is entrepreneurial, affording a sense of urgency, creativity, collegiality and flexibility. The not-for-profit, non-partisan Center receives donations, conference sponsorships, and unrestricted research gifts from private foundations, government, agribusinesses, trade associations and food manufacturers that help support its activities.
CFNP is the official Virginia On the Move (VOM) and Washington D.C. On the Move (DCOM) affiliate of the America On the Move" initiative to promote enjoyable life-long physical activity and healthy eating. In that capacity, CFNP is working closely with schools, worksites, active living communities, state organizations and individuals to motivate people to live healthier, more active lives by providing step counters, feasible goals and encouragement and basic nutrition information.
